Airtel-Google deal will give wings to Digital India, feature phone users will get cheaper smartphone

Airtel-Google Deal: India's digital ecosystem is passing through a historic phase. The world's largest companies want to take advantage of this unprecedented opportunity. Seeing this opportunity, global tech company Google has announced a strategic partnership with the country's leading telecom operator Bharti Airtel. Under this partnership, Google will invest one billion dollars in Bharti Airtel.

Google investment in Airtel
This strategic partnership has been done to provide affordable smartphones and 5G services in India. Under this partnership, Google will invest $ 1 billion, or about Rs 7500 crore, in Bharti Airtel. Google is making this investment as part of the Google for India Digitization Fund. Google will buy 1.28 percent stake in Bharti Airtel by investing $ 700 million (Rs 5,224.4 crore). Bharti Airtel has made it clear that Google will buy this stake in their company at a price of Rs 734 per share.

Important partnership for Digital India
Google will invest $ 300 million under a multi-year deal for five years. At present, out of India's 1.3 billion people, about 750 million people have access to the Internet through mobile phones. But there are still around 350 million feature phone or basic phone users who are unable to buy smartphones due to their expensive. Under this deal, Airtel will provide affordable and affordable smartphones to 350 million i.e. 350 million mobile phone customers. With this, users using feature phones will also be able to access other digital services, including internet surfing, by connecting to the smartphone.

Both the companies will explore the opportunity to partner with smartphone makers to provide affordable smartphones in different price ranges. Google will collaborate with Airtel to potentially develop an India-specific network domain for 5G. In addition, both the companies will collaborate with enterprises, especially small and medium enterprises, with a focus on developing a cloud ecosystem in India to accelerate the process of adoption of digital technology by entrepreneurs.

Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said that the two companies are proud to partner for a shared vision to expand connectivity and ensure Internet access to more Indians. Google's commercial and equity investments in Airtel are primarily aimed at expanding smartphone penetration, creating new business models, enhancing connectivity and helping companies in their digital transformation, he added.

Google needs more internet users for its search engine. Google sees immense potential in the country's 130 crore population and wants more and more people to use smartphones, which increases the consumption of data and also increases the revenue of companies. The funds that Bharti Airtel will get from the partnership with Google will also help in the rollout of 5G network along with bidding for 5G spectrum.

Airtel engaged in bringing 5G
Airtel has fully prepared itself to launch 5G services. Live demonstration is being done at many places in the country. It is believed that the commercial rollout will happen soon. During 5G technology testing, it was possible to download a 1GB file in just 30 seconds. Recently, Airtel along with Nokia successfully carried out the first 5G trial in the 700 MHz spectrum band outside the city of Kolkata. This was the first 5G trial to be done in rural areas in India.

Bharti Airtel is taking a big initiative towards providing 5G solutions in collaboration with global technology and manufacturing companies to give a new dimension to the business world of the country. Also, Airtel is working closely with companies like Intel, Qualcomm, CISCO, Accenture, Ericsson to bring India into the category of hyperconnected world.

With the advent of 5G, the world of mobile telephones will change. After the arrival of 5G, businesses will run on their own, automation will increase. So far, the things which are limited to big cities, will reach the villages, which includes e-medicine. Along with this, the education sector and agriculture sector will also benefit tremendously. The launch of 5G service will give a new dimension to the digital revolution. 5G technology will open new avenues for healthcare, virtual reality, cloud gaming.
